The Scottish Information Comissioner

The Client

The Scottish Information Commissioner is responsible for enforcing and promoting the right to access public information created by the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.  The Act and the Regulations give anyone, anywhere in the world, important rights to access information held by more than 10,000 public authorities in Scotland.

Our Approach

The Scottish Information Commissioner required a visually appealing design with an instantly recognisable identity.  A website that would ‘grab the interest’ of the target markets and one which would allow the visitor to feel comfortable with the navigation within the site was essential.

The site was to be fully functional, accessible and scaleable for future development and was to be scripted to a standard that reflected the high quality of the organisation.

To ensure that the profile of the organisation was raised, a website that was designed for the best search engine optimisation needed to be created.

The Native Agency provided a fully featured up-to-the-minute front end solution that was at the leading edge of technology, with a robust and easy to use content management solution supporting it.

Native created a website that was implemented to allow free-text search, which was powered by MS Indexing Services, allowing for speedy, cached return of results

Native created a user-friendly site which allowed non-technical users to update the site content easily with only one day of training.

The website met AA standard of compliance, (with screen reader functionality) and these standards can be imposed for contributors.

The website is instantaneously recognisable and maintains continuity with the existing website for regular visitors.

Native also delivered a fully automated E-News system through our content management system. Visitors are now able to subscribe, confirm their details safely and unsubscribe to the Commissioner’s Newsletter without any staff costs in terms of administrating the system.
